The Treasury is advancing a Tax Authority proposal to tax rental income from the first shekel, together with mandatory reporting of every rented apartment. The idea was blocked several times before by political figures. In parallel, a purchase tax (mas rechisha) break for investors is being considered to soften the impact on the sector.

What it means for buyers abroad

Investors buying to rent should follow this closely, as both rental taxation and purchase tax for investors may change. Nothing is final yet, so returns should not be calculated on assumed rules.
