Bank of Israel: only half of a relative's income counts in a mortgage
2 November 2026 ยท Based on Globes
The Bank of Israel has clarified that banks may recognise only half of the disposable income of a family member who has no ownership rights in the property. This applies even if that relative pays the full monthly mortgage instalments. The move narrows the ways parents can help children finance a home by joining a mortgage.
What it means for buyers abroad
If you planned to rely on a parent's income to qualify for an Israeli mortgage, expect it to count for less. Check with the lender how your borrowing capacity is calculated.
